Cooktop Cove: Spread biscuits on the bottom of a casserole for an addicting dish as easy as it is delicious
By Angela Brown
Casseroles are a unique breed of food, which generally include a variety of ingredients topped by cheese, cheese, or more cheese. Quick, simple, and tasty, casseroles are excellent for a quick family dinner, helping a friend in need or freezing to cook at a later date.
The following recipe only uses 4 ingredients and begins with a roll of canned biscuits. This means you can easily purchase everything you need from your local grocery store. Sometimes you just need something hearty and quick on the table, and this recipe is it.
To begin, preheat your oven to 375 degrees and grab the following ingredients:
1 roll canned biscuits
1 jar marinara sauce
24 frozen mini meatballs
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Open your biscuits and cut each one into eight bite sized pieces. Line the bottom of a casserole dish with the biscuits and top with your mozzarella sauce. Make sure the sauce is spread easily so none of the biscuits get too soggy.
Next, add your meatballs on top of the sauce in even rows and top with Mozzarella cheese.
Bake this in your oven for about 35 minutes or until the cheese is melted and your meatballs are heated all the way through. Serve with a salad or your favorite side dish.
As with all casseroles, you can play around with the ingredients to get different flavors. Alyssa Possumato, suggested coating the biscuits in butter and garlic before adding them to the dish.
Aliinee Lefebvre, opted to substitute pizza dough for the biscuits and chose to cook the ingredients separately to prevent the dough from getting soggy. She cooked her dough in one pan and the meatball and sauce in another, combined them and topped it with cheese.
"I made mine with pizza dough, because I couldn't find the biscuits anywhere ... The pizza dough is not soggy and my dinner turned out to be a success," she wrote.
