Pears are one of those fruits that can take a while to ripen after you bring them home, but once they’re ripe, they quickly become overripe. This slow cooker pear sauce recipe is the perfect solution to the problem of very ripe or overripe pears. With almost no effort, you can turn them into a luscious sauce to spoon over vanilla ice cream, stir into plain yogurt, or dollop on top of your oatmeal.
The best thing about making this sauce? Your whole house will smell like cinnamon and pears! The sauce will keep in a jar in your refrigerator for up to two weeks. Use it in any of the ways mentioned above or as a partial fat substitute in baking, similar to how you might use applesauce.
Slow Cooker Pear Sauce

4 pounds pears, cored and chopped
1 large cinnamon stick, broken into a few pieces
¼ cup sugar
Combine the pears, cinnamon stick and sugar in a slow cooker.
Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for six hours.
If desired, puree the fruit using an immersion blender, or just mash it with a potato masher.
Serve warm or cool to room temperature and refrigerate for up to two weeks.
