Cooktop Cove: Pour a can of peaches into a slow cooker for a classic dessert you'll love to dig into
By Charles Yong
Everyone loves a good dessert, but not everyone loves the time it takes to measure out and bake something homemade. Well, not only is your slow cooker the answer to home cooked meals on a busy schedule, it is also the answer to a delicious (and easy!) homemade peach classic. Check out the recipe below.
If you've never heard of a "dump cake" before, you're in for a treat. All the moist, homemade goodness of cake, without the hassle of firing up the oven. Best of all, since this recipe is for your slow cooker, you can just set it and forget it. Let's get started!
Recipe
1. Pour 1 can (~21 oz) of cut peaches with all the juice into a 6-quart slow cooker. The peaches should be evenly spread over the bottom of the pot.
2. Pour out 1 box of yellow cake mix over the peaches. The cake mix should completely submerge the peaches.
3. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg over the top. For a crunchier texture, you can also add 1/3 cup of crushed walnuts.
3. Cut 6-oz of butter into square chunks and place on top, evenly distributed. Don't worry about mixing, as the butter will cook into the mix on its own.
4. Set your slow cooker to "high" and cook for 2 hours.
It should be self-evident, but we'll say it anyway. Serve with ice cream and enjoy!
