Cooktop Cove: No matter how much he has, my hubby always goes back for seconds
By Jessica Jacobs
There is something truly special about homemade spaghetti that makes it one of my absolute favorite dishes to cook and enjoy. Perhaps it's the way the aroma of garlic and onions fills the kitchen while the sauce slowly simmers on the stove. Or maybe it's the sheer comfort of twirling a forkful of perfectly cooked noodles, coated in just the right amount of tomato sauce. Whatever the reason, this recipe has become a staple in my kitchen, and I'm eager to share it with you.
I first learned to make this recipe from my grandmother, who immigrated to the United States from Italy when she was just a young woman. She brought with her an abundance of traditional recipes, and this spaghetti recipe quickly became a family favorite. It was a dish she would make for special occasions and holidays, and it was always met with excitement and delight. I have since adapted the recipe slightly to suit my taste, but the essence of it remains the same. Each time I make this spaghetti, I feel a connection to my heritage and to the generations of women who came before me in my family's kitchen.
Homemade Spaghetti Recipe:
Ingredients:
- 1 pound of spaghetti noodles
- 2 tbsp of olive oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 lb of ground beef
- 1 can of crushed or diced tomatoes (28 oz)
- 2 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tbsp Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Parmesan cheese for topping
Instructions:
1. Cook spaghetti according to package instructions in a large pot of salted boiling water. Drain and set aside.
2. Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Add the onion and garlic and sauté until fragrant and translucent.
3. Add the ground beef and break it up with a wooden spoon, cooking until browned.
4. Add crushed tomatoes, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper to the saucepan. Stir until combined and reduce the heat to a simmer for about 30 minutes.
5. Serve the spaghetti topped with the meat sauce and Parmesan cheese.
Enjoy!
