Cooktop Cove: This recipe is known as "Unicorn Poop Cookies" and they were all the rage at the party I hosted!
By Georgia Lynn
Well, darlings, today I'm going to share with you a recipe that's as whimsical as it is delicious – Unicorn Poop Cookies. Now, I know what you’re thinking, "Georgia, what in tarnation is that?" Let me tell you, these cookies are a pinch of magic, a sprinkle of joy, and a whole lot of fun rolled into one. The origins of these fantastical treats aren't writ clear in any cookbook, but I reckon they must've come from a baker with a playful heart and a love for all things colorful. In a world where we take so much seriously, why not indulge in a little lightheartedness in the kitchen? These cookies are perfect for children’s parties, whimsical gatherings, or just a delightful surprise for the grandkids when they come visit the farm.
Now, when you serve Unicorn Poop Cookies, you don't need much else on the plate. They're mighty fine on their own for a sweet treat with a cup of milk or a hot cup of tea for the chitlins and the grownups alike. If you’re feelin’ extra sweet, pair them with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, it's like a cherry on top of a sundown in July – just right.
Unicorn Poop Cookies
Servings: Makes about 24 cookies
Ingredients
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- Purple food coloring (gel works best for vibrant color)
- Candy sprinkles, as many colors as you like
Directions
1. Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a couple cookie sheets with parchment for easy cleanup.
2. In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and butter until it's light and fluffy, just like a cloud ready to burst with rain. Beat in the vanilla extract to add that whisper of sweetness.
3. Sift your flour, baking powder, and salt together in another bowl. Remember, the sifting ain’t just for show – it makes sure your cookies are tender as a petal.
4. Add the dry ingredients to your butter mixture a bit at a time, alternating with the eggs, just until it’s all incorporated.
5. Now for the fun part – add as much purple food coloring as you need to get that magical unicorn hue. How much you add is between you and the unicorns.
6. Once that dough is mixed, take a teaspoon and scoop up a goodly amount. Roll it into a snake-like shape, then swirl it into a cookie form akin to what I imagine unicorn poop might look like if such a thing were real.
7. Coat those swirly cookies generously in your candy sprinkles – don't be stingy with the sparkle now.
8. Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes, or until they're just set.
9. Let them cool on the baking sheets for a couple minutes, then transfer them to wire racks to cool completely.
Variations & Tips
- If purple ain't your color, feel free to use whatever color strikes your fancy – unicorns come in all colors, after all.
- For a richer flavor, try adding a smidge of almond extract.
- If you want a bit more texture, fold in some white chocolate chips before you bake.
Remember, the most important ingredient in any recipe is a loving heart. These Unicorn Poop Cookies, much like a good yarn spun on the porch at dusk, are sure to bring a smile to faces young and old. So gather your sprinkles and laughter, and let’s make some memories, one cookie at a time.
