Cooktop Cove: Such a great recipe! It's even better the day after...if you can hold off!
By Morgan Reed
Bacon cream cheese baked spaghetti is a delightful fusion of classic American comfort food and Italian pasta. This dish brings together the creamy richness of cream cheese and the smoky saltiness of bacon to elevate traditional baked spaghetti. Perfect for family dinners or casual get-togethers, it's a great way to introduce some new flavors into a beloved staple.
This hearty baked spaghetti pairs wonderfully with a crisp green salad topped with a light vinaigrette. Garlic bread or a rustic loaf of sourdough will complement the dish, adding a bit of crunch to contrast the creamy texture. For a complete meal, consider serving with a side of roasted vegetables like Brussels sprouts or asparagus, which will add a touch of healthy greens and balance the richness of the pasta.
Bacon Cream Cheese Baked Spaghetti
Servings: 6
Ingredients
12 oz spaghetti
6 slices of bacon, chopped
1 medium onion, finely chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
8 oz cream cheese, softened
1 cup heavy cream
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Salt and pepper, to taste
Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Directions
1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish and set aside.
2. Cook the spaghetti according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
3. In a large skillet, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until crisp. Remove the bacon with a slotted spoon and set it aside, leaving the bacon grease in the skillet.
4. Add the onion to the skillet and sauté in the bacon grease until softened and translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
5. Reduce the heat to low and stir in the cream cheese until melted and smooth. Gradually add the heavy cream, stirring constantly until the mixture is well combined and creamy.
6. Remove the skillet from heat and add the cooked spaghetti, bacon, cheddar cheese, and half of the mozzarella cheese. Mix well until the pasta is thoroughly coated.
7. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish. Top with the remaining mozzarella cheese and the Parmesan cheese.
8. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
9. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving. Enjoy!
Variations & Tips
For a touch of heat, add red pepper flakes or diced jalapeños to the cream cheese mixture. You can also substitute whole wheat or gluten-free pasta to suit dietary preferences. For added depth of flavor, consider incorporating sautéed mushrooms or bell peppers along with the onions. Vegetarian versions can be made by omitting the bacon and using a combination of smoked paprika and olive oil to replicate the smoky flavor.
