Cooktop Cove: Such a great recipe! It's even more delicious the day after...if you can hold off.
By Georgia Lynn
There’s something about the rich, smooth blend of honey and bourbon that brings back cherished memories of long summer days in my little Midwestern home. The honey bourbon chicken recipe is not only a delightful dish, but it’s also an homage to the simplicity and comfort of farm life. It combines tender chicken breasts with a sweet and savory glaze, reminiscent of the times my family would gather around the dinner table after a day's work. This dish is perfect for those looking to create a warm, inviting meal that carries a touch of nostalgia and a taste of the heartland.
This honey bourbon chicken pairs wonderfully with creamy mashed potatoes or a soft bed of rice to soak up the luscious sauce. A side of roasted vegetables, such as carrots or green beans, complements the sweetness of the glaze, adding a delightful crunch. For a truly comforting meal reminiscent of traditional Midwestern fare, try adding a slice of freshly baked cornbread on the side.
Honey Bourbon Chicken
Servings: 4
Ingredients
4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
1/2 cup honey
1/3 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup bourbon
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 cup chicken broth
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Salt to taste
1 tablespoon cornstarch
2 tablespoons water
Directions
In a bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, bourbon, minced garlic, chicken broth, and black pepper.
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
Season the chicken breasts with salt and place them in the skillet, cooking for about 5-6 minutes on each side until golden brown.
Pour the honey-bourbon mixture over the chicken in the skillet.
Reduce heat to low, cover, and let the chicken simmer for 20-25 minutes, turning occasionally until the chicken is cooked through.
In a small bowl, mix cornstarch and water until smooth. Stir this mixture into the skillet to thicken the sauce.
Continue to cook for another 3-4 minutes, stirring constantly until the sauce is thick and glossy.
Serve the chicken hot with the sauce drizzled over the top.
Variations & Tips
For a smoky twist, add a teaspoon of smoked paprika to the glaze mixture. You can also replace bourbon with apple cider for a non-alcoholic version that is just as tasty. If you have a sweet tooth, try adding a tablespoon of brown sugar to the mix for an extra caramelized finish. Additionally, using chicken thighs instead of breasts can give the dish a richer flavor.
