Cooktop Cove: Put raw ground turkey in a slow cooker with these 4 ingredients. It’s a weeknight miracle
By Morgan Reed
Chili is a beloved dish with roots tracing back to the culinary traditions of the American Southwest. This Slow Cooker 5-Ingredient Turkey Chili is a modern twist on a classic, offering a healthier alternative with lean ground turkey while maintaining the hearty, comforting essence of traditional chili. It's perfect for busy individuals who want a nutritious meal without spending hours in the kitchen. The slow cooker does all the work, melding flavors together beautifully over time, making it an ideal choice for those chilly Midwest evenings.
This turkey chili pairs wonderfully with a side of cornbread or a simple green salad to balance the richness of the dish. For a bit of crunch, consider serving it with tortilla chips. A dollop of sour cream or a sprinkle of shredded cheese on top can add a creamy texture that complements the chili's robust flavors.

1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes
1 packet chili seasoning mix
1 cup chicken broth
Directions
1. In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground turkey until fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes.
2. Transfer the cooked turkey to the slow cooker.
3. Add the kidney beans, diced tomatoes, chili seasoning mix, and chicken broth to the slow cooker.
4. Stir to combine all ingredients.
5. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours.
6. Once cooked, stir the chili and adjust seasoning to taste before serving.
Variations & Tips
For a spicier kick, add a chopped jalapeño or a pinch of cayenne pepper. You can also substitute the kidney beans with black beans or pinto beans for a different texture. If you prefer a thicker chili, reduce the chicken broth to 1/2 cup. For a vegetarian version, replace the ground turkey with an additional can of beans and use vegetable broth instead of chicken broth.
