By Morgan Reed
Ground Beef and Cabbage in a rich tomato sauce is a comforting dish that brings together the hearty flavors of beef and the subtle sweetness of cabbage. This dish has roots in various European cuisines, where cabbage and beef are staple ingredients. It's a perfect recipe for those looking to enjoy a wholesome meal that's both satisfying and easy to prepare. The combination of savory beef, tender cabbage, and a robust tomato sauce makes it a delightful choice for a family dinner or a cozy night in.
This dish pairs wonderfully with a side of crusty bread or a simple green salad to balance the richness of the tomato sauce. For a more filling meal, consider serving it over a bed of fluffy mashed potatoes or alongside some buttered noodles. A glass of red wine, such as a Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon, complements the flavors beautifully.

Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Reduce heat to low, cover, and let simmer for about 20-25 minutes, or until the cabbage is tender.
Serve hot, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.
Variations & Tips
For a spicier version, add a pinch of red pepper flakes or a diced jalapeño when cooking the onions. If you prefer a vegetarian option, substitute the ground beef with lentils or a plant-based ground meat alternative. For added depth of flavor, consider incorporating a splash of red wine or a dash of Worcestershire sauce into the tomato sauce. You can also add other vegetables like bell peppers or carrots for more texture and nutrition.
