Milk Chocolate Nougat Bars
Servings: 12
Ingredients
2 cups milk chocolate chips
1/4 cup unsalted butter
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup light corn syrup
1/4 cup water
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
2 cups mini marshmallows
Directions
1. Line an 8x8 inch baking dish with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.
2. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the milk chocolate chips and butter together in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth. Pour half of the mixture into the prepared dish and spread evenly. Refrigerate until set.
3. In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, corn syrup, water, and salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Bring to a boil without stirring until the mixture reaches 240°F on a candy thermometer.
4. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and peanut butter until smooth. Quickly add the mini marshmallows and stir until melted and combined.
5. Pour the nougat mixture over the chilled chocolate layer in the baking dish, spreading evenly.
6. Pour the remaining chocolate mixture over the nougat layer, spreading evenly.
7. Refrigerate until fully set, about 2 hours. Once set, lift the bars out using the parchment overhang and cut into pieces.
Variations & Tips
For a nutty twist, add chopped almonds or hazelnuts to the nougat layer. If you prefer a darker chocolate flavor, substitute dark chocolate chips for the milk chocolate. For a festive touch, sprinkle the top with sea salt or colorful sprinkles before the chocolate sets. To accommodate dietary preferences, consider using almond butter instead of peanut butter, or opt for vegan marshmallows and dairy-free chocolate chips.
