Midwest Island Pulled Pork
Servings: 6-8
Ingredients
4 lb pork shoulder
1 tablespoon liquid smoke
2 teaspoons sea salt
1 cup chicken broth
Directions
Pierce the pork shoulder all over with a fork to allow the flavors to penetrate.
Rub the pork shoulder generously with sea salt, ensuring it's evenly coated.
Drizzle the liquid smoke over the pork, letting it seep into the meat.
Place the seasoned pork shoulder in your slow cooker.
Pour the chicken broth around the pork in the slow cooker.
Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours, or until the pork is tender and easily shreds with a fork.
Once cooked, remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks.
Mix the shredded pork back into the juices in the slow cooker to keep it moist and flavorful.
Serve hot with your choice of sides.
Variations & Tips
For a sweeter twist, you can add a tablespoon of brown sugar to the pork before cooking. If you prefer a spicier version, try adding a teaspoon of chili powder or cayenne pepper. For a more traditional Hawaiian touch, serve the pork with a side of macaroni salad. If you have picky eaters, consider serving the pulled pork in tacos with their favorite toppings like cheese, lettuce, and sour cream.
