Cooktop Cove: Cheesesteaks in the slow cooker
By Henry Cannon
Most people can ascertain that the always delicious cheese steak sandwich originated in Philadelphia, hence the name 'Philly Cheesesteak.' But few people know that the sandwich originated in the 1930s at Pat’s King of Steaks, according to Cooking Light. Ever since that fateful day, the sandwich has been a popular choice for meat lovers across the country.
To make cheesesteak sandwiches at home, you'll need the following:
- 2 pounds of tri-tip
- 1 cup beef stock
- 1 tbsp red wine vinegar
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tsp olive oil
- 1 onion
- 1 green bell pepper
- 8 oz of mushrooms
- cheese of your choosing
- sandwich rolls of your choosing
Cook the meat for 3 to 4 hours. In a saucepan, sauté white onions, green bell peppers, and mushrooms.
Now build your sandwich. Slice the beef and add it to the roll. Top with your vegetables and two slices of cheese. Wrap it in tin foil and stick it in the oven for about 10 minutes. (Your oven should be set to 350 degrees Fahrenheit).
