Cooktop Cove: Pile the cheese in your slow cooker for a tasty macaroni delight everyone loves
By Rhona Reid
I look on mac and cheese as the solution to some of life's problems, and not just the hunger-based ones. The combination of soothing, creamy cheese sauce and toothsome pasta is just exactly what is needed when the going gets tough, or the family needs feeding.
This recipe from spendwithpennies.com is just brilliant. Cleverly side-stepping the potential problem of creamy sauces splitting in the slow cooker, by adding soup and mayo, the combination really does seem to emulsify really well for a velvet-smooth sauce.
The mustard, gruyere and sour cream make this a really well-flavored dish, and the reviews are pretty unanimous!
We're also loving the zingy spices in this version of mac n cheese from flouronmyface.com. The heat from the pepper jack cheese and chiles works so well with the creamy sauce and is ideal if you want to add a twist to the classic dish.
You don't need us to tell you how to eat mac and cheese (we like to go for 'often' and 'with a spoon'); so our only suggestion is a green salad for a fresh, contrasting crunch!
