Cooktop Cove: 7 tips you need if you want to have the cleanest windows on the block
You give your windows a quick cleaning, but over time you notice they aren't looking as nice as they used to. The tracks are a perfect place for dirt, grime, and even mold to build up. Your window glass just never seems perfectly clean and streak free.
You don't need a professional window cleaner to achieve flawlessly beautiful windows. Using these 6 tips frequently will allow you to quickly wipe your way to window glass that lets the sun shine in flawlessly!
1. Deep clean your window tracks
If it's been a while since you've given your windows a really good cleaning, you may have a mess in your window tracks. White windows will especially reveal how long it has been between cleanings. The secret to speeding up the process is to use a combination of baking soda and vinegar to loosen the dirt. A microfiber cloth wrapped around a butter knife will help you get into the tracks. Once nice and clean, regular wiping will keep the tracks looking great.
2. Use a toothbrush to get into all the small spaces
The bristles on a toothbrush fit perfectly into all the cracks and crevices in your window tracks. By brushing towards the middle, you get the corners perfectly clean. You can even use the toothbrush to gently clean the bottom of your screen.
3. Get rid of fuzz and cobwebs
The fuzz from trees and plants can easily cover your screens. If you live in a wooded area, cobwebs may also be a concern. They often don't wash away easily. Use this creative idea to remove the debris stuck in your window screen. An adhesive lint roller will grab it with ease!
4. Clean the outside without going outside
If you are fortunate enough to have single hung windows that tilt in, cleaning the outside of the lower portion is easy. But how do you clean the outside of the top portion that doesn't tilt in? You can use this tip from the inside (or even the outside) of your home to reach the tops of your windows. Use a paper towel or microfiber cleaning cloth on a Swiffer mop to reach the top half of your windows. Giving it a spray with window cleaner will help leave a streak-free shine.
5. Create your own essential oil window cleaner (h/t One Essential Community)
All natural window cleaners are great for your home, your health, and the environment. However, they don't always work well. This streak-free homemade window spray uses vinegar, vodka, cornstarch, and essential oils to create a potent window cleaner that leaves your windows streak-free and your home smelling wonderful. You can customize the scent anyway you like - citrus, lavender, and mint are popular choices.
