Cooktop Cove: How to make Southern mashed sweet potatoes

Be honest, if there are sweet potato fries on the menu, how often do you opt for the regular old fries? So then why shouldn’t these succulent spuds grace our dinner tables at home as well as at restaurants? That’s where this super sweet potato mash comes in. It's as simple to make as a traditional mashed potato, but the color, flavor and slight sweetness really set this plate apart.
Customize the consistency with more or less milk, depending on your preference, and garnish with some pecans for extra presentation points. Of course, if you’re looking to increase the visual factor even more, serve it next to something green, like kale or a spinach salad, and you’ve got yourself an Instagram post in the making!
Southern mashed sweet potatoes

4 large sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed
4 tablespoons butter, cut into cubes
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1-4 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon cinnamon
½ teaspoon salt
Chopped pecans to garnish (optional)
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the sweet potatoes and boil 20-30 minutes, or until fork-tender.
Strain the potatoes and place them in a large mixing bowl with the butter, brown sugar, cinnamon and salt. Use a potato masher to begin to bring the ingredients together. Add the milk, a little at a time, and continue mashing until you reach the desired consistency.
Garnish with pecans and serve immediately.
