Cooktop Cove: Combine cherries and cake mix for a dessert that couldn't be easier
By Emily Monaco
Don't be put off by its name: A dump cake is one of the easiest, tastiest cake recipes to have in your kitchen arsenal. All you need for this version is four simple ingredients: crushed pineapple, cherry pie filling, boxed cake mix, and butter. Dump them into a dish, bake for just under an hour, and this gooey, fruity cake is ready to serve.
Even though this cake is indeed simple, there is one caveat: It's not great when made in advance. If you're making it for guests, excuse yourself from the fun for just five minutes so you can prepare it and pop it in the oven. This way, the fruit filling will stay gooey, and the cake will keep its crisp layer on top.
