Cooktop Cove: People call this 'Granny cake,' and it's dead simple to make

If you’ve never tried Granny cake, you are in for a sweet surprise. This recipe is a throw-back to your grandma’s day, but it’s still every bit as delicious. It’s an old-fashioned dump cake flavored with canned pineapples and peaches. Top it with a quick coconut frosting, and you’ve got a truly irresistible dessert.
This cake doesn’t contain any added fat like butter or oil, but it turns out unbelievably moist and delicious. It also couldn’t be easier to make. It’s a true mix-and-dump cake. But even though it’s a cinch to make, it still receives rave reviews every time it is served.

For the cake
Nonstick cooking spray
1½ cups sugar
1 can pineapple, in juice, drained
1 can peaches, in juice, drained
2 large eggs
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
For the frosting
½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
1 cup sweetened coconut flakes
¾ cup brown sugar
½ cup evaporated milk
Preheat the oven to 325F and spray a 9-by-13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the sugar, pineapple, peaches, eggs, flour, and baking soda and stir to mix well.
Transfer the cake batter to the prepared baking dish.
Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, until the cake is cooked through.
While the cake is baking, make the frosting.
In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, stir together the butter, coconut flakes, brown sugar, and evaporated milk.
Cook, stirring, for about two minutes, until the sauce is smooth and thickened.
Remove the cake from the oven, and immediately pour the hot frosting over the top.
Let cool to room temperature before serving.
