Cooktop Cove: Sprinkle chocolate chips over cake mix & get a winning dish in no time
By Audrey Michels
Cake mix, pudding mix ... but it's not an icebox cake? That's right -- this is a cake that bakes in your slow cooker, a dump cake so quick and indulgent with its warm, molten chocolate center that you might not ever bake in your oven again! Plus, most of the ingredients last in the pantry for a long time, making it perfect for a last-minute event, casual celebration or any night when you don’t feel like going out.
For a darker chocolate experience, you could substitute the semisweet chocolate chips for chopped dark chocolate. And, to make the very most of this sweet treat, serve it with some fresh whipped cream, vanilla ice cream or berries.

2 hours 30 minutes
2 hours 45 minutes
1 box chocolate fudge cake
3 ¼ cups milk, separated
½ cup vegetable oil
3 eggs
12 ounces semisweet chocolate chips
5.9-ounce box chocolate pudding
Spray the slow cooker with nonstick spray
In a large mixing bowl, combine the cake mix, 1 ¼ cups of milk, the vegetable oil and the eggs. Once fully combined, pour into the slow cooker. Top with chocolate chips.
In a second mixing bowl, combine the pudding mix and remaining 2 cups of milk, and whisk until smooth. Pour on top of the cake mix and chocolate chips in an even layer.
Cover and cook on low for 2 hours and 30 minutes, or until the cake is set and the pudding is bubbling.
Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream.
