This slow cooker Amish Swiss cheese chicken pasta is the kind of cozy, low-effort dinner that earns a regular spot in a busy weeknight rotation. The combination of tender chicken, melty Swiss cheese, creamy soup, and pasta creates a rich, comforting meal with very little hands-on work, which is exactly why recipes like this have stayed popular in home kitchens for years. It has that old-fashioned casserole-style appeal, but the slow cooker makes it especially practical for a workday.
Serve this hearty pasta with a simple green salad, steamed green beans, or roasted broccoli to balance the creamy sauce. Warm dinner rolls or garlic bread are also great for soaking up the extra sauce, and if you want to lighten the plate a little, a crisp cucumber salad or sliced tomatoes make a nice fresh side.
Slow Cooker 5-Ingredient Amish Swiss Cheese Chicken Pasta
Servings: 6
Ingredients
6 chicken drumsticks
8 slices Swiss cheese
1 can (10.5 ounces) condensed cream of chicken soup
2 cups chicken broth
12 ounces egg noodles
Directions
1. Lightly coat the inside of a slow cooker with nonstick spray if desired. Arrange the chicken drumsticks in an even layer in the slow cooker.
2. Drape the Swiss cheese slices over the chicken so most of the drumsticks are covered.
3. Spoon the condensed cream of chicken soup over the cheese, then pour in the chicken broth around the sides.
4. Cover and cook on low for 5 to 6 hours or on high for 3 to 4 hours, until the chicken is fully cooked and very tender.
5. Remove the chicken from the slow cooker. If desired, pull the meat from the bones and return the meat to the sauce for easier serving.
6. Meanwhile, cook the egg noodles according to package directions until tender. Drain well.
7. Stir the cooked noodles into the slow cooker sauce and chicken, tossing gently until everything is well coated. Serve hot.
Variations & Tips
Use boneless chicken: If you prefer less picking around bones at the table, boneless skinless chicken thighs work especially well here. They stay tender in the slow cooker and can be shredded right into the sauce.
Add seasoning: Even with just a few ingredients, a little garlic powder, black pepper, onion powder, or dried parsley can add extra flavor. If your soup and broth are salty, season lightly at first and adjust at the end.
Try a different pasta shape: Egg noodles are a classic choice, but rotini, penne, or medium shells also hold the creamy sauce nicely. Cook the pasta separately so it does not become too soft in the slow cooker.
Make it creamier: For an even richer texture, stir in a few spoonfuls of sour cream or a splash of heavy cream right before serving. This is a nice trick when you want it to feel a little more casserole-like.
Lighten it up with vegetables: Stir in cooked peas, steamed broccoli, or sautéed mushrooms at the end for extra color and a more complete one-bowl meal. This is usually how I stretch it when I want leftovers to feel a bit more balanced for lunch the next day.
