There are a lot of different ways to make hamburger steaks with gravy. You could use frozen hamburgers, packaged gravy or you could do it your own way and make everything from scratch. Sometimes life gets really busy and you just need to make something delicious in a hurry. That's why, in the recipe below, we took help from wherever we could get it. We like to think of this recipe as the "Poor Man's Steak."
Yes, they're frozen burgers. And yes, it's packaged gravy. But if you buy high-quality meat and a delicious gravy mix, this dish will taste like it's entirely homemade. A sprinkle of fresh parsley on top does more than just look good. It adds an earthy, fresh taste that brings everything together and makes it taste like it was made from scratch.
Poor Man's Steak
Ingredients1 tablespoon olive oil (or butter)
4 frozen hamburger patties, thawed
2 packets of gravy mix
Chopped parsley on top (optional)
Directions 1. Heat olive oil or butter over medium-high heat in a large skillet. When hot, add hamburger patties and sear for about 5 minutes per side, until browned.
2. Transfer the patties to a plate.
3. Lower heat in the skillet and add gravy packets, mixing with water according to the package directions. Bring to a simmer.
4. Put the hamburger patties into the gravy and cook for 15 to 20 minutes, until they are completely cooked through and the juices run clear.
5. Serve! Optional: Add chopped parsley as garnish.
