Italian subs were my go-to sandwich when I was in high school. After a rough volleyball practice, I would ravage one these in an instant. Often my teammates would make comments about how quickly I could put one of those things away. In the recipe below, we keep all greatness of an Italian sub without any of the carbs. So I can still eat them the way I did back then.
We use ham to hold everything together. It's the perfect vessel to wrap everything in tight. Loaded with provolone, salami and pepperoni, this recipe also adds pepperoncini and olive spread for that extra Italian flavor. It's hard to say no to this sandwich with or without the bread.
