If you are looking for a classic burger that can keep you in the ketogenic zone, look no further. The recipe below is just that. It’s a hearty burger made with ground beef, lots of flavorful Cheddar cheese, and other seasonings. Lettuce leaves stand in for buns and serve to keep the burger and toppings together for the best eating experience.
Top the lettuce leaves with mayonnaise and sliced tomatoes in this recipe, but you can add any burger toppings you like, as long as they are keto. Pickles, bacon, and sliced raw or caramelized onions are all great additions. I sometimes like to use a chipotle mayonnaise or add sliced, pickled jalapenos to give my burgers a spicy kick.

1½ pounds ground beef
2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese, divided
2 teaspoons garlic powder
2 teaspoons onion powder
2 teaspoons paprika
1 teaspoon kosher salt
½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
4 large lettuce leaves
½ cup mayonnaise
1 tomato, thinly sliced
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, 1 cup of the shredded cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Form the mixture into 4 patties, each about ¾-inch thick.
Heat a grill or grill pan to medium-high heat and cook the burgers for 3 to 5 minutes per side, to desired doneness. Top the burgers with the remaining cheddar cheese while they are cooking on the second side.
To serve, place each burger on a lettuce leave and top with mayonnaise and tomato slices. Add additional toppings (avocado slices, pickle slices, roasted green chiles, sliced onions, etc.)
