Oven Baked Ham and Cheese Potato Bake
Servings: 6

Ingredients
6 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
2 cups cooked ham, diced
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup milk
1 cup heavy cream
2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon flour
1 teaspoon garlic powder
Salt and pepper to taste
Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Directions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for about 1 minute to make a roux.
Gradually whisk in the milk and heavy cream, stirring continuously until the mixture thickens. Add garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
In the prepared baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes, half of the ham, and half of the cheese.
Pour half of the cream sauce over the layers. Repeat the layering with the remaining potatoes, ham, and cheese, then pour the remaining sauce on top.
Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes.
Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
Let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley.
Variations & Tips
For a lighter version, use half-and-half instead of heavy cream and reduced-fat cheese. You can also add some veggies like sliced onions, bell peppers, or spinach for extra nutrition and color. If you have picky eaters, consider using a mild cheese or mixing in a little mozzarella for a milder flavor. For a bit of spice, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or a dash of hot sauce to the cream sauce.
