These 4-ingredient oven steak fries are my go-to when I need something fast, comforting, and kid-approved. You start with a bag of frozen steak fries and toss them right on the baking sheet with just three simple pantry ingredients—no fancy prep, no extra dishes. They come out crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and so flavorful that my husband always wanders into the kitchen asking when they’ll be ready. This is the kind of easy, cozy side dish that fits right into a busy Midwestern weeknight, but still feels special enough for burger night or game day.
Serve these oven steak fries hot, straight from the baking sheet, with ketchup, ranch, or your favorite dipping sauce. They’re perfect alongside burgers, grilled chicken, sloppy joes, or even a simple green salad for a lighter meal. I like to scatter a little extra salt over the fries right before serving and bring the pan right to the table so everyone can grab their favorites. Add some sliced veggies on the side for the kids, and you’ve got a complete, low-stress dinner that still feels like a treat.
4-Ingredient Oven Steak Fries
Servings: 4

Ingredients
1 (24–28 oz) bag frozen steak fries
2 tablespoons olive oil (or other neutral cooking oil)
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon seasoned salt (or regular salt, to taste)
Directions
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Place a large non-stick baking sheet on the center rack while the oven heats so it gets nice and hot.
Once the oven is preheated, carefully pull out the hot baking sheet and place it on a heat-safe surface. Spread the frozen steak fries directly onto the baking sheet in an even layer. It’s okay if they’re touching, but try not to pile them on top of each other so they crisp up well.
Drizzle the olive oil evenly over the frozen steak fries right on the baking sheet.
Sprinkle the garlic powder and seasoned salt evenly over the fries. Use clean hands or a spatula to gently toss the fries right on the baking sheet until they’re lightly and evenly coated with the oil and seasonings. Spread them back out into a single layer.
Place the baking sheet back into the oven and bake for 20–25 minutes, flipping the fries halfway through, until they are golden brown and crispy on the edges. Ovens vary, so keep an eye on them toward the end of the cooking time.
Taste one fry and add a pinch more seasoned salt if needed. Serve the fries immediately while they’re hot and crisp, straight from the baking sheet or transferred to a serving platter.
Variations & Tips
For picky eaters, you can skip the garlic powder and just use seasoned salt, or even plain salt, so the flavor stays simple and familiar. If your family loves a little kick, add 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper or a pinch of paprika or chili powder when you sprinkle on the seasonings. For a cheesy twist, as soon as the fries come out of the oven, sprinkle them with 1/4–1/2 cup of finely grated Parmesan and toss gently on the hot baking sheet so it melts slightly. To make them feel more like loaded fries, top the hot fries with shredded cheese, cooked crumbled bacon, and sliced green onions, then pop them back into the oven for 2–3 minutes until the cheese melts. You can also switch up the oil—use canola or vegetable oil if that’s what you have on hand. For food safety, always bake the fries straight from frozen; do not thaw them first, as that can make them soggy and may affect even cooking. Use a hot oven and a preheated baking sheet to help them crisp quickly and cook through safely. Handle the hot pan carefully with oven mitts, keep kids’ hands away from the open oven, and refrigerate any leftovers within 2 hours. Reheat leftovers in a hot oven or air fryer until warmed through and steaming, and discard any fries that have sat out at room temperature too long.
