This oven baked Amish-style havarti cheese noodle casserole is the kind of simple comfort food that helps get supper on the table without a lot of fuss. Layering uncooked wide egg noodles with creamy havarti and just a few pantry staples creates a rich, cozy bake that feels old-fashioned and homey, with very little prep work. It is especially handy on busy days when you want something warm and filling that the whole family will happily dig into.

Serve this cheesy noodle bake with a crisp green salad, steamed green beans, buttered peas, or simple roasted carrots to balance the richness. If you are feeding a bigger group, a basket of dinner rolls or sliced crusty bread makes it feel extra special, and a spoonful of applesauce on the side gives it a nice homespun touch.

Ingredients

12 ounces uncooked wide egg noodles

16 ounces packaged havarti cheese slices
2 cans condensed cream of chicken soup
2 cups milk

Directions

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and lightly grease a 9x13-inch casserole dish.

2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the condensed cream of chicken soup and milk until smooth.

3. Spread a small amount of the soup mixture in the bottom of the prepared casserole dish. Add a layer of uncooked wide egg noodles, then cover with a layer of havarti cheese slices. Spoon some of the soup mixture over the top. Repeat the layers until all of the ingredients are used, ending with soup mixture and a final layer of cheese on top.

4. Cover the dish tightly with foil and bake for 40 minutes.

5. Remove the foil and continue baking for 15 to 20 minutes more, until the noodles are tender and the cheese is melted and lightly golden on top.

6. Let the casserole rest for 10 minutes before serving so the sauce can settle a bit, then scoop and serve warm.

Variations & Tips

Make It Extra Creamy: If you like a softer, spoonable casserole, add an extra 1/2 cup of milk to the soup mixture. This is especially helpful if your noodles are very thick and need a little more moisture while baking.

Add A Little Seasoning: Even simple casseroles benefit from a touch of flavor. A light sprinkle of black pepper, onion powder, or dried parsley between the layers can give the dish a little lift without changing its cozy character.

Try A Different Soup: Cream of mushroom or cream of celery works nicely if that is what you have in the pantry. These small swaps keep the recipe easy while letting you tailor it to your family’s tastes.

For Picky Eaters: Cut the havarti slices into smaller pieces before layering so every bite gets a little cheese and the casserole serves more evenly. This also makes it easier for little ones to scoop and eat.

Check For Doneness: Since oven temperatures can vary, test a noodle near the center before taking the dish out for good. If it still seems too firm, add a splash of milk, cover again, and bake for another 10 minutes.
