When I need a low-effort meal that still feels fun enough for a backyard gathering, this 4-ingredient slow cooker beef is one of my favorite tricks. Using frozen beef slider patties keeps prep wonderfully simple, and after a few hours in the slow cooker, they turn tender and flavorful in a rich sauce that’s perfect for piling onto buns. It’s the kind of easy party food that works for busy summer holidays, game days, or any night when you want something hearty without standing over the stove.

Serve this beef on slider buns with pickle slices, coleslaw, potato salad, baked beans, corn on the cob, or a big bowl of kettle chips. For a 4th of July spread, I like to set out sliced cheese, barbecue sauce, mustard, and extra onions so everyone can build their own sandwich plate just the way they like it.

Ingredients

2 pounds frozen beef slider patties

1 large onion, thinly sliced
1 cup barbecue sauce
1/2 cup beef broth

Directions

1. Place the frozen beef slider patties in an even layer in the bottom of the slow cooker. Scatter the sliced onion over the top.

2. Pour the barbecue sauce and beef broth over everything, making sure the patties are well coated.

3. Cover and cook on low for 5 to 6 hours or on high for 3 to 4 hours, until the beef is fully cooked and very tender.

4. Gently break up the patties with a spoon if you’d like a looser sandwich filling, or leave them whole for hearty slider-style portions. Stir to coat well in the sauce.

5. Spoon onto slider buns and serve warm.

Variations & Tips

Cheesy sliders: Add halved slices of cheddar or American cheese to the warm beef just before serving, or lay cheese on the buns so it melts from the heat of the meat. This is an especially good choice for kids and picky eaters.

Make it tangier: If your barbecue sauce runs sweet, add a spoonful of yellow mustard or a splash of apple cider vinegar to balance the flavor. It gives the beef a brighter, cookout-style taste.

Keep the texture hearty: If you prefer more defined pieces, leave the patties mostly whole instead of shredding or breaking them up too much. They’ll hold nicely on buns and feel more like mini chopped steaks in sauce.

Stretch the meal: Set out extra buns and simple toppings like pickles, sliced onions, and shredded lettuce to make the meal feel bigger for a crowd. A slow cooker recipe like this is perfect when you need to feed guests without fuss.
